Arepa & Co opens in Elephant Park
Ernesto Moreno and Kathe Cunin have launched Arepa & Co in Elephant Park.
Having debuted in Haggerston in 2014, Arepa & Co has become a home from home for the Venezuelan community in London.
The new restaurant marks an exciting next step for the group, as it debuts a restaurant and bar south of the river, looking across the buzzing Elephant Park with a host of new dishes rooted in Venezuelan cuisine.
Dining at Arepa & Co
The menu centres on arepas – traditional flat corn breads that are toasted, cut open and filled with meat, pulses and dairy, a dish that originates from indigenous tribes on the continent. There are also cachapas, traditional sweetcorn pancakes, and a selection of small plates, including yuca chips and their signature tequeños – a puff pastry snack filled with cheese and guava.
In the morning, the restaurant opens its hatch and serves breakfast dishes such as pastelitos – traditional stuffed Venezuelan pastries – for guests to dine in or take away. Come evening, diners can wind down with a pre-dinner cocktail at low tables adjacent to the blue-toned, 20 ft bar serving cocktails such as the Arepa Sour and the Guarapita.
Then, guests are seated in the seventy-cover main restaurant, reminiscent of Latin America’s haciendas, situated beneath hanging plants and windows that open wide throughout the summer months.
Moreno says of the opening: “We are so excited to bring Arepa & Co to London’s centre of Latin American culture, Elephant Park. This location feels like the perfect place to open our flagship restaurant.”
