Matt Walden announces Perro

Chef Matt Walden has announced that his new restaurant, Perro, will open in late June.

The restaurant will fuse Mexican-influenced small plates with cocktails, designed by Katie Rouse of Couch, natural wine and a creative community spirit.

Tucked into a cosy 12-cover space in Kings Court, Kings Heath, Birmingham, guests can expect small plates infused with the flavours of salsa, mole and adobo, drawing inspiration from Mexican cuisine, with Asian influences.

The Perro experience

By day, Perro will deliver a grab-and-go experience featuring stacked deli sandos, Vietnamese iced coffees, house-baked goods and rotating seasonal agua fresca. At night, the venue will transform into an intimate, low-lit 12-seater restaurant and bar. On Fridays and Saturdays, Perro will serve cocktails and snacks into the night.

"I fell in love with the depth of Mexican food," says Walden. "It's one of the most misunderstood cuisines and I'm nowhere near mastering it, but that's the point. Perro will grow and evolve as we learn. We're not doing 'traditional' Mexican, but every element we serve is rooted in research and reverence."
