Big Mamma opens Circolo Popolare

A Parisian-born Italian restaurant group opened its first site in the North of England on 6 June.

Located at St Mary's Parsonage in Manchester, Big Mamma Group's Circolo Popolare is a two-floor trattoria inspired by an alfresco festa on the island of Sicily.

The downstairs space is designed for lively gatherings, while upstairs offers a more intimate vibe, complete with cosy alcoves and an open kitchen.

Interiors come courtesy of Big Mamma's in-house design studio, Studio Kiki, known for crafting the group's signature aesthetic of Mediterranean exuberance.

Dining at Circolo Popolare

Head chef Alfonso Esposito leads the kitchen team, having created a brand-new menu exclusive to the Manchester site. Dishes are crafted from ingredients directly sourced from over 170 independent Italian producers, including never-before-seen specials made just for the opening.

Menu highlights include ravioli filled with zesty lemon ricotta and aubergine parmigiana; slow-cooked lamb and San Marzano tomato DOP ragù, tossed in thick spaghettoni and topped with minty salsa verde; crispy-soft pizze Ruota di Carretto topped with icotta and 'Nduja cream, spicy salsiccia piccante, mozzarella and a touch of chili pepper; and Orecchie di Elefante, a giant rosé veal escalope, coated in crunchy breadcrumbs.
