Dishoom launches Permit Room Lodgings

The team behind Dishoom will welcome guests to stay overnight at Permit Room Lodgings for the first time this month, launching the accommodation above the new Permit Room venue on Portobello Road, Notting Hill.

Set on the second floor, Permit Room Lodgings offers a relaxed retreat that extends the Bombay nostalgia for which Dishoom is known. Designed by Macaulay Sinclair, the venue spans three levels and features a bar and breakfast room, along with the First-Floor dining room, a nod to the former Notting Hill institution, ‘First Floor’.

The amenities

The Permit Room Lodgings includes two en-suite bedrooms with king-size beds and a separate living room. Arched windows flood the 1970s-inspired space with ample natural light, throwing shadows across parquet floors, reclaimed antique Bombay furniture and brass, marble and timber finishes. 

An amply stocked, bespoke drinks cabinet allows guests to mix their own cocktails, while complimentary chai is offered to all residents. In the morning, Lodgings’ residents are invited to enjoy a Permit Room ‘breakfast in bed’ before the daily turndown service.

When ready to explore the city, guests can dive into the Permit Room’s ‘Key to the City’ – a one-off guide to London created by the Dishoom team, showcasing a selection of local hotspots, insider recommendations and exclusive perks.

Shamil and Kavi Thrakrar, co-founders of Dishoom and Permit Room, comment: "Selfishly, we're so excited to finally have a Permit Room in London. I think you'll see us perched at the bar sipping orange wine margaritas more often than we'd like to admit!

"When we began thinking about our Portobello Permit Room... We thought, what if we could extend our hospitality to our guests even more fully? Some of our most cherished memories are from staying with friends and family in Bombay... What if we could transport our guests to a romantic Bombay residence? These feelings of nostalgia and looking after people to the best of our ability led us to come up with our Permit Room Lodgings."
