Café François launches afternoon tea

Café François, the modern French restaurant from the team behind Maison François, is now offering afternoon tea

Following its success at Maison François in St James’s, which launched earlier in the summer, founders François O’Neill and Ed Wyand, along with executive chef and partner Matthew Ryle, have brought the French-inspired tea to Borough Yards.

The experience begins with a glass of Champagne, with a range of tea and coffee also provided. This is followed by layers of house-made sandwiches, cakes, pastries and more, all served on bespoke metal stands.

The menu

Ryle has designed a menu of sandwich classics, celebrating the flavours of France, including oeufs mimosa with watercress served on seeded sourdough; rillettes de thon, chilli, basil and avocado; vadouvan curried chicken on turmeric bread; and jambon beurre on granary bread.

Sandwiches are followed by pâtisserie, including vanilla gâteau, pear and chocolate slice, fig tart and hazelnut choux. Further, instead of the classic scones, executive pastry chef Jérémy Prakhin has hand-braided babkas, each twisted with chocolate and hazelnut or vanilla.

Afternoon tea is served from 2:30pm to 5:30pm Monday to Friday, and from 3:00pm to 5:30pm at weekends.

"Afternoon tea at Maison François has been such a success and we've loved serving the British tradition to our guests, and now we can't wait to bring afternoon tea to Borough Yards," says O'Neill. "Matthew and Jérémy have worked hard to create beautiful sandwiches and pastries, unlike any other, to pair perfectly with a glass of Champagne."
