Brunch spot Federal to launch in Leeds this month

The Leeds launch of brunch spot Federal has been confirmed for Monday 15 December.

Established in Manchester in 2014 by Claudio Ribeiro, Federal is inspired by New Zealand and Australia neighbourhood cafés.

It has four venues in Manchester, with its imminent Leeds site taking the estate to five. To celebrate its arrival in the city, it will be giving away 1,000 free coffees from 8am on 20 and 21 December.

Federal will also debut a brand-new Leeds Latte Martini, crafted as a playful nod to the city’s cocktail scene.

“We’re incredibly excited to officially announce 15 December as our opening date," says Ribeiro. "There’s a real buzz around Federal coming to Leeds, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone in.

“Leeds shares so much of the energy we love about Manchester a thriving independent scene and a genuine passion for great food and coffee. Bringing Federal to Yorkshire feels like the perfect next chapter, and we’re gearing up for an amazing launch.”

Federal has gained huge social media traction thanks to its canned iced Matcha range, which has taken TikTok by storm, creating queues of so-called ‘Fed fans’.

Leeds diners can expect an all-day brunch menu featuring signature dishes such as French toast, steak and eggs, halloumi and shrooms, plus a rotating line-up of specials. Drinks will include coffee and teas, fresh juices, wine, beer and cocktails.

In a recent study by bookmakers Betway, which measured the popularity of over 300 coffee shops worldwide, Federal was named the UK’s most popular independent café. It was also ranked fourth in the world with more than 1.1m TikTok views and almost 400,000 annual Google searches.
