Michelin star frites arrive in Soho

Frites Atelier, the Dutch frites concept created by three Michelin-starred chef Sergio Herman, has launched in the UK for the first time.

Its debut UK restaurant has opened at 34 Old Compton Street in Soho and will trade until 3am from Wednesday to Saturday.

Frites Atelier Amsterdam was conceived by entrepreneur Laurent Hompes, who wanted to 'elevate Dutch potato culture' and redefine Frites into a culinary experience.

This vision found its perfect partner in Herman, who helped bring the vision to life when Frites Atelier first launched in the Netherlands in 2016.

Since then, the brand has opened multiple sites in European cities, including Brussels and Antwerp.

“London is a city that knows food and appreciates quality,” says Herman. “Bringing Frites Atelier to Soho allows us to introduce our take on Dutch frites to a new audience and show what happens when you apply serious culinary thinking to something many consider simple.”

What's on the menu?

Frites Atelier offers hand-cut potatoes from one selected supplier, a proprietary oil blend and a double-cooking method developed by Herman and his team. The result is frites with a crisp exterior and light, fluffy interior, presented as standalone dishes rather than sides.

The menu at Soho launches with four signature Frites Specials: Cheddar Supreme (a London-exclusive seasonal special), Flemish Beef Stew, Parmesan & Basil, and Sea Nori. In-house sauces, including Truffle, Andalouse, Béarnaise and Basil Mayo, allow customers to customise their orders.

The launch has been delivered in partnership with Giraudi Group and Apollo & Daphne.
