Sally Abé to launch her first solo restaurant

Following her departure from Public House Group's The Bull in Charlbury, chef Sally Abé has announced she will open her first standalone restaurant next month.

Opening on 26 March, 'Teal by Sally Abé' will be located on Wilton Way in Hackney, London, launching in partnership with co-owner Abe Drewry, who also worked at 2025's National Pub & Bar of the Year

Teal by Sally Abé, named after the chef's favourite game bird, will reflect her signature culinary style with each dish heralding select ingredients.

Snacks will include Angels on Horseback, Devils on Horseback and Lockets Savoury, before moving onto starters where dishes include Dorset Crab Royale, English Peas and Lovage and Baked Bone Marrow.

Mains feature Haunch of Deer, Pickled Walnuts and Cavolo Nero and Cornish Mussels, Jersey Royals, Cauliflower and Sea Kale. While for desserts, a favourite of British confectionery will be translated in a Raspberry Marshmallow Teacake.

Guests can also try the Marmalade Ice Cream Sandwich and the nostalgic Penny Lick, the ice cream icon of the nineteenth century. Priced at £1, the proceeds made from the Penny Licks will be donated to Hackney Food Bank.

"Opening Teal by Sally Abé feels incredibly personal," she says. "It’s the first restaurant I’ve built entirely on my own, on my own two feet, and I’m hugely proud of that. After years of working in other peoples’ businesses and kitchens, this is me putting my name, my values and my voice into a space that’s truly mine.

"Teal by Sally Abé is about celebrating the best of British food, its history, its flavours and its stories, while championing women, supporting good causes and building a restaurant that feels rooted in its community. I can’t wait to open the doors in Hackney and show people exactly what I’ve been working towards."

What else to expect

To design the space, Abé has worked closely with her sister to design the restaurant. Guests will be greeted by the bar with vintage Winchester stools seated at the oak countertop.

Pendant lighting and antique brass table lamps with mustard geometric-patterned shades will light the space in the evenings. Bentwood chairs will be used alongside a mustard yellow leather banquette to contrast the bottle green of the walls.

Artworks include black and white posters, which capture moments from historical women’s rights marches, with women holding empowering slogans.

Abé will work alongside head chef Abbie Hendren in the kitchen, who joins from Sam's Waterside in Brentford, while Drewery will curate the wine list.

Teal by Sally Abé will open on Thursday 26 March.
