Pizza Pilgrims puts winning pizza on menus

Pizza Pilgrims is adding a new pizza to its menus for September, following the restaurant brand's internal competition, Doughdown.

Created by Pizza Pilgrims pizzaiolo and Doughdown champion Alessandro Romanelli, 'Che Cavolo' features a creamy kale base, guanciale, fresh burrata, toasted panko and a lemon and olive oil dressing.

It is available in all Pizza Pilgrims restaurants until 27 September.

Doughdown is Pizza Pilgrims' annual competition where the brand’s pizzaiolos from across the country go head-to-head for the chance to see their creation land on the September menu.

Finalists go head-to-head in a live cook-off judged on flavour, texture, originality, appearance and execution. Previous winnners have gone on to comepte at the National Pizza Awards final.

The name ‘Che Cavolo’ comes from an Italian expression. Literally translating to ‘What cabbage!’, it’s commonly used in Italy as a mild exclamation, similar to ‘What the heck!’ or ‘Blimey!’.
