Danish steakhouse launching in Soho this month

London's only Danish steakhouse will launch a second site in Soho in mid-August.

KöD, St Anne's Court follows the arrival of the brand's first outpost in the city, which opened in March 2023. The concept is owned and operated by Danish restaurant group DiningSix

The word 'köd' means meat in Danish and has a similar pronunciation to the word 'cool'. As the name suggests, guests can expect high-quality, grass-fed minimum 35-day aged steaks across the menu.

The Soho restaurant is based on the successful format of its sister site, KöD City on Devonshire Square, but with a few new additions.

Behind the brand is London-based founding partner Morten P. Ortwed who, along with five friends, launched KöD in Denmark in 2014. The concept also expanded to Norway before making its UK debut. Running the kitchen operations for all UK outposts is James Durrant, who previously worked for Gordon Ramsay Holdings and The Stafford Hotel.

Ortwed's career began with waiting tables, but an opportunity to take on the franchise of a café, restaurant and nightclub with a group of friends in 2009 led to the creation of DiningSix, which now has 22 restaurants across eight brands in several countries.

KöD City was the seventh opening under this brand name for the Danish group. There are currently three sites in Denmark – two in Copenhagen and one in Aarhus, as well as three Norway premises in Frogner and Posthallen, Oslo and another in Stavanger.

Ortwed's brand conducts hospitality 'the Danish way', with an absence of hierarchy on the restaurant floor meaning he can often be found at the pass, waiting on tables or serving drinks.
