Action Against Hunger rallies for support from restaurants

Love Food Give Food, the campaign that invites diners to add £1 to their bill to contribute to Action Against Hunger's humanitarian work, returns this month for the 12th year.

The 2023 initiative will see 174 restaurant brands take part from September to October, including Hawksmoor, Shoryu Ramen, Hakkasan and Darjeeling Express.

Since the campaign's inception in 2011, Love Food Give Food has raised over £3.5m. This year, Action Against Hunger is aiming to raise over £200,000.

The initiative is fighting hunger and malnutrition in 55 countries around the world, providing relief to communities affected by natural disasters, supporting people in conflict zones and helping communities adapt to climate change.

The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report by the UN's Food and Agricultural Organization says hunger levels have risen sharply in the last year. Areas in western Asia, the Caribbean and subregions of Africa have been particularly affected, with the overall number of people suffering from hunger has risen by 122 million to 725 million since 2019 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine climate change and economic uncertainty.

Jean-Michel Grand, Action Against Hunger UK's executive director, comments: "As we launch the 12th edition of the Love Food Give Food campaign, we invite diners to make a profound impact with a simple gesture – by adding just £1 to their bill. This autumn, restaurant-goers can turn each meal into an opportunity to combat hunger and save lives."
