Azzurri Group launches Boojum in Leeds

A national restaurant operator has ventured into the quick service restaurant (QSR) category for the first time, launching a branch of a Mexican burrito bar in Leeds.

Azzurri Group, operator of Zizzi, ASK and Coco di Mama, acquired the Mexican QSR concept Boojum in 2023. Leeds foodies queued for hours around the block to be one of the first to claim a burrito, as the brand celebrated its opening by giving away 300 meals.

The 45-seater outlet is the first in mainland UK, located on Merrion Street in the heart of the city. The brand is known for its use of quality, natural ingredients, with plenty of vegan, vegetarian and halal options.

The menu features customisable burritos, bowls, nachos, tacos, chips and salsas, made fresh in-store every day. The venue also offers soft drinks and a range of Mexican beers, including Corona and Modelo.

Paul McCullagh, the brand's head of marketing, comments: "The response we have had from the people of Leeds has been amazing. From hundreds of enthusiastic fans queueing on opening day, to thousands of new Leeds social social media follower and countless well-wishers from our new neighbours, it's safe to say the city has welcomed Boojum with open arms. We're delighted to be open at Merrion centre and be a part of the bustling food scene in Leeds city centre."
