JKS Restaurants to host 'Mind Matters'

In recognition of World Mental Health Day (10 October), JKS Restaurants will host 'Mind Matters', an afternoon conversation around mental health and wellbeing in hospitality on Monday, 21 October.

Following the success of the series' first event, 'The Women Who Make Us', in March, the event will bring industry figures together to embark on a programme of workshops and discussions, reflecting on this year's World Mental Health Day theme: 'It is time to prioritise mental health in the workplace'.

The event will take place in the Crystal Room at The Mayfair Hotel. All proceeds will go to Kelly's Cause, a leading provider of mental health first aid training and mental health services to the hospitality industry.

Mind Matters

In an afternoon curated by JKS, the sessions will start with an intro from co-founder and chief people officer, Sunaina Sethi. Attendees will then be guided through a mindfulness workshop by Aisha Nash, followed by the first panel discussion, bringing together experts from across London's hospitality scene. Offering their perspectives on the industry and attitudes towards mental health, the panel will be chaired by George Gill (CODE Hospitality), alongside Tobie-Anna Durk (Kelly's Cause), Brendan Kelly (Parents in Hospitality) and Michelle Righini (We Recover Loudly). Talking points included generational concerns in hospitality, issues of addiction and advice on practical resources and support available to those in need.

The second panel will look at mental health and wellbeing across the JKS estate. With representatives from hospitality functions across the company, the conversation will reflect on the aforementioned industry trends and how they present themselves 'on the ground', as well as exploring reactive and proactive support available.

Durk, founder of Kelly's Cause, will also share practical resources for dealing with mental health in the workplace to round off the afternoon's talk. As the long-term partner of JKS Restaurants, Kelly's Cause has played a pivotal role in supporting hospitality businesses to prioritise team wellbeing. Attendees will then be invited to enjoy complimentary drinks and a chance for further discussion with panellists.

"We are delighted to be bringing together such a diverse and interesting group of individuals to shed light on an important topic to not only us at JKS, but the wider hospitality industry," says Sethi. "Having representation from all parts of our hospitality business, as well as external partners and experts in the field, is crucial to this discussion. Alongside the work we are doing internally, we wanted to take the opportunity to showcase what support is out there and available to those in need."
