Bar + Block prepares to open second Scottish site

Bar + Block, the steak brand from hospitality operators Whitbread, is gearing up for the launch of its second Scottish restaurant, due to open on Princes Street in Edinburgh on 13 December.

The new venue will bring Bar + Block's portfolio to 18 sites in total, transforming a former New Look shop into a 181-cover restaurant and bar.

Menus will follow the steakhouse's all-day trading format, with a focus on high-quality, 30-day aged steaks, hand-cut to order and available at an affordable price.

Other menu highlights include burgers freshly ground on-site, salads, grills and grazing plates, with an express menu offered from £8 Monday to Friday. A number of new dishes have also been created exclusively for the Edinburgh site, including the signature Butchers Block with a limited-time Chateaubriand sharing dish until January, alongside whisky-glazed wings, and a shortbread sundae; while the bar will feature an Edin-Bru-sty nail cocktail – an inventive mix of Drambuie, Whisky and Irn Bru, as well as craft beers and ciders, cocktails and wines.

The contemporary design features a central statement bar with copper detailing and a large open kitchen, complemented by decorative touches such as the brand’s trademark neon wall calligraphy detailing the Bar + Block story.

Rebecca Donaldson, commercial marketing director at Whitbread, comments: “We are excited to be opening our second Bar + Block restaurant in Scotland as we continue to grow and develop the brand nationwide.

"We are confident our mix of high quality expertly sourced aged steaks and accessible price point will appeal to locals and visitors to the city."
