Japanese Omakase coming to Marylebone this month
Mayha, a Japanese omakase restaurant, will open in Marylebone later this month.
Having debuted in Beirut, Mayha now brings its experience-led dining concept, where chef interaction showcases the theatre of the kitchen, to London for the first time.
Mayha's founders originate from Lebanon. They formed the group Nothing But Love 20 years ago, and have since established 10 food-based brands and restaurants.
The two-floor venue, designed by a studio in Beirut called Mariagroup, resides on Chiltern Street. The ground floor will house a curved stone counter, where guests can communicate with the chefs preparing and serving the tasting menu. The lower gound floor also offers a Japanese raw bar and courtyard.
Mayha will embody the spirit of omakase: to respectfully leave the decision to the chef. As such, the menu will change daily, with dishes using seasonal ingredients and authentic Japanese techniques.
Head chefs Jurek Wasio and Yuichi Nakaya, who began working together at Mayha Beirut, will lead the London kitchen. Together, they have created a menu that showcases the finest seafood and speciality produce. Accompanying the food will be a selection of sakes, rare spirits, fine wines and niche beers.
A focal point of the upstairs space will be a bespoke light installation suspended above the counter. A wrought-iron spiral staircase, which has been restored and hand-painted, will take guests to the lower level. Here, a scorched timber bar will take centre stage, overseen by a team fluent in the art of Japanese bartending.
