New Japanese Izakaya concept coming to Marylebone

Manga Banga, a new Japanese concept will open on Lisson Grove, Marylebone, next month.

Inspired by Izakaya venues, informal Japanese bars that serve alcoholic drinks and snacks, Manga Banga brings together Asian small plates with bao, inventive cocktails and Manga – Japanese comics and graphic novels developed in the late 19th century.

Guests can expect a concise sharing menu featuring signature dishes such as crispy baby squid with yuzu kosho mayo, bang cauliflower, seared salmon sashimi with yuzu-soy and ginger, spicy tuna tacos with scorched chilli salsa, and vegetable gyoza. While Japanese at heart, dishes will be centred around the best available British produce.

Bao with a range of fillings will also be offered. Diners can choose between twice-cooked pork belly with peanut-soy, miso-yaki Portobello mushroom with Japanese BBQ sauce, Korean fried chicken, and sticky wagyu short rib with ginger teriyaki glaze.

The 50-cover restaurant, located 150 yards from Marylebone Station, will also feature a wall adorned with more than 100 manga magazine covers and neon signage.
