Sixteen street food stars head to national finals

The finalists of the 2023 Street Food Championships have been announced, with 16 operators now preparing to compete in a national cook-off in November.

The annual street food competition brings together a mix of group and independent traders, all cooking their own signature cuisines and dishes in a bid to have their creation named Street Food Dish of the Year.

Chefs from multiple outfits such as Barburrito and The Coconut Tree will go head-to-head with cult street food stars from the likes of 20ft Fried Chicken and Wholesome Junkies, the latter of which featured on Netflix and BBC2’s Million Pound Menu.

At the final, which takes place on Tuesday 7 November at Big Penny Social in London, all 16 chefs will showcase their signature dish to a panel of industry judges. They will also take part in a Technical Round, where they’re tasked with creating a showstopping serve by using products from the competition’s sponsors, as well as devising the ultimate chicken wing recipe in the Wings Round, which is sponsored by Major.

“By bringing together such a vibrant mix of independent and group operators, the Street Food Championships continues to showcase just how spectacular the UK’s street food scene is,” says Henry Norman, editor of OOH magazine, which co-hosts the event with Dine Out. “We can’t wait to welcome these talented chefs to the final at the beginning of November and see which dish takes the top title.”
