The Coconut Tree confirms Bath opening

Sri Lankan street food restaurant group The Coconut Tree has confirmed its seventh site will open in Bath at 5pm on Monday 24 May, and will be offering 50% off all food (eat-in only) for the first 10 days.

The group's latest site, based at 36 Broad Street, joins branches in Cardiff, Bristol, Oxford, Cheltenham and Bournemouth.

“We searched for a site in Bath for two years, so it feels wonderful to finally have an opening date to look forward to," says The Coconut Tree's brand director Anna Garrod.

"We can’t wait to bring a little piece of Sri Lankan hospitality to the city.”

The Coconut Tree team continue to offer 50% off for all eat-in customers from Monday to Wednesday until the end of January 2022.

"As a result of the UK government’s Eat Out to Help Out offer last year, we saw a real surge in bookings; it gave us a new audience who saw it as an opportunity to try new things," adds Garrod.

"Sri Lankan food hasn’t yet been taken to the heart of British culture in the same way Indian food has, and we really want to be the ones to change that, we want to hear people say – ‘let’s go for a Sri Lankan tonight'".

Two  new dishes have been developed for The Coconut Tree’s menu in time for its opening in Bath: a curry of fresh young mangos sliced and marinated in a rub of Sri Lankan spices with garlic, cinnamon, ginger, padan leaves, and a splash of coconut vinegar, which is then slow-cooked in rich coconut milk; and string hoppers or 'idiyappam’ – a traditional Sri Lankan dish of rice flour pancakes pressed to form noodles, which is an alternative to the original egg hoppers.
