Sticks 'n' sushi announces best ever revenues

Danish sushi chain Sticks 'n' Sushi has reported earnings of 500MM DKK, equivalent to more than £57m, in its best ever financial report.

UK expansion, employee retention and the development of takeaway services – including four UK delivery kitchens – are all factors that have contributed to the brand's record-breaking year.

With its first venue opening in Copenhagen in 1994, Sticks 'n' Sushi has since moved beyond its native borders, now operating nine sites across the UK alongside its 12 Danish venues.

"We opened our first location in London in March 2021, and we are starting to feel the effects of the hard and persistent work on a fiercely competitive market," says Andreas Karlsson, CEO of the business. "Today our British restaurants have overtaken the Danish market in terms of revenue, and I expect it to remain our largest market in 2022."

Karlsson states that Germany will be the focus of the next 12 months, with three new sites already in the pipeline.

"We created a strong brand in the UK and Denmark," he adds. "It is our ambition to establish the same presence and brand in Berlin. We have opened two restaurants with a third on its way and are actively seeking a fourth and fifth location. Across all three markets we want to strengthen the business, ensure that our products are innovative and further develop our employees who have been crucial for our good results in the past year."
