The Hut at Colwell Bay reopens
Beachfront restaurant The Hut, located in the Isle of Wight's Colwell Bay, has reoped for its ninth season.
The popular restaurant has a reputation for casual dining, a menu centred on fresh seafood, a live DJ and panoramic ocean views across the Solent.
New head chef, Lucian Romocea, brings his Catalan cooking style to dishes, drawing from his experience as a chef in Barcelona. He'll work under Ian Daw, chef-director, both of whom are formerly of The Ned in London. The pair have launched a new menu with a selection of light dishes, including seared sea bass with maitake dashi, yuzu kosho, pak choi and a type of green called agretti, otherwise known a 'monk's beard'; as well as gambas a cazuela with chorizo and piquello pepper ragu.
Serving fresh, locally caught seafood and shellfish, signature dishes include roasted cod with white beans, spring vegetables, smoked pancetta and jalapeño; and crab gnocchi bisque served with crisp capers and sea lettuce. Locally grown cucumelons and micro-herbs are widely used in the kitchen, as well as sea herbs and sea lettuce foraged from the island.
A wide selection of provenence rosé is offered, as well as a range of cocktails – including Thai lemonade with Old J spiced rum, ginger beer, Tabasco, orgeat, coriander, lime and frozen pineapple; and the passion fruit margarita with Casamigos Blanco, Cointreau, pineapple, Crème de Passion and citrus.
