Las Iguanas expands with two new restaurants

Latin American restaurant and bar chain Las Iguanas is adding two more sites to its growing portfolio, launching in Canterbury and Peterborough this Autumn.

The new 284-cover restaurant and bar on Longmarket in Canterbury will take over a 7,000sq ft site, including two terraces and a late-night cocktail bar on the ground floor. The venue is set to open in September, creating 50 new jobs for the local community.

The 160-cover restaurant, bar and terrace on Peterborough's Church Street will reside in a 4,500sq ft historic Grade II listed building in the heart of the city. Due to open in October, the site will create 40 new jobs in the area.

The openings will bring the group's estate to 50 venues across the UK, following the recent announcement of two new restaurants at Center Parcs' Elveden Forest and Sherwood Forest holiday villages.

Last year, The Big Table Group (BTG) – owner and operator of the Las Iguanas brand – announced ambitions to almost double the size of the brand's estate over the next three years. The expansion forms part of a £50m investment to establish new sites and carry out renovations across BTG's Las Iguanas and Bella Italia brands.

"Las Iguanas has consistently proven to be an extremely popular choice with guests of all ages, so it's fantastic to have found two perfect sites to add to our growing portfolio," says Matt Ainger, property director at BTG.

"There's great demand for Las Iguanas across the country, and we're proactively speaking with landlords in a number of towns and cities about further opportunities to continue the expansion of this thriving brand."
