Wines less travelled – globe-trotting in a bottle

Look at any wine menu and you’re likely to see the usual suspects: your Sauvignon Blancs, your Malbecs and your Shirazes. It’s something we all fall victim to when choosing our wine selection. But, what if you could wow your customers with some great tasting, yet adventurous wines from other regions that mirror the flavour profiles they love?

No need to pack your suitcases for this trip, just grab a glass and discover some delicious yet less explored wines with Unity Brand Ambassador, Lee Isaacs, DipWSET, as he offers three useful tips to start your wine-venture:

  1. Glass by glass – a great way to introduce new wines to your customers is to sell them by the glass rather than the bottle. And, if it proves popular, you can add the bottle to the menu!
  2. Menu placement – where you’ve placed your well-known wines, like a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, place a less explored wine, like a Spanish Albariño next to it
  3. Communicate passion – get a supplier in to sit with your staff and have a wine tasting with them. This will give them a first-hand understanding of smell, flavour and mouth-feel, which they can then communicate confidently and passionately with customers.
