Giggling Squid coming to Cardiff's Mermaid Quay

In the latest series of lettings that form a key part of Schroders Capital's strategic repositioning of Mermaid Quay in Cardiff Bay, Schroders Capital UK Real Estate Fund (SCREF) has agreed a deal with Thai tapas chain Giggling Squid.

The new restaurant is set to join the 150,000sq ft mixed-use waterfront destination. The opening, planned for 2023, will stand as the brand's second venue in Cardiff

Occupying a 4,800sq ft unit on the terrace level, the restaurant will overlook the recently refurbished central Tacoma Square and the Bay. The site will be created by combining units formerly occupied by Bayside Brasserie and Bellini's Italian, both of which are operated by independent restaurateur Babak Arabastani. Mr Arabastani will continue to trade from his third Mermaid Quay Italian restaurant, Signor Valentino's.

Founded by Pranee and Andrew Laurillard, Giggling Squid's first venue opened in Brighton, but now the group operates 46 venues across England. The brand is known for its varied offer, which includes lunch and evening meals, featuring fresh dishes that celebrate an abundance of ingredients found across Thailand. All food is cooked by expert chefs, including the brand's signature Moo Ping and Soft Shell Pranee Prawns.

Laurillard says of the upcoming opening: "I love Cardiff, it's an amazing place. Great shopping, cool entertainment scene and loads of superb restaurants. Mermaid Quay is a brilliant place too showcase our fresh and flavourful Thai menu and we're excited to introduce the Giggling Squid experience to Cardiff Bay locals and visitors."
