Bocconcino to open second site in Soho

Following the success of Bocconcino in Mayfair, the Italian dining concept from Mikhail Gokhner is set to open a second site in London’s Soho on 15 September.

Located at 58 Great Marlborough Street, Bocconcino offers authentic Italian fare, including wood-fired pizzas, handmade pasta and cicchetti.

With a capacity for 146 diners spread across two floors, the 471sq ft site will have an open-plan dining area seating 120, plus an intimate bar on the lower-level seating 26. Designed by CO:DE Studios, the upper dining area features a neutral colour palette with modern wooden fixtures and marble tables. The lower-floor bar will have fiery accents of red and orange, including an undulating ceiling with a webbed light fixture over the bar area.

The Soho menu from new head chef Simone Serafini – previously of Cecconi’s and 5 Hertford Street – will reflect the current Mayfair offering but with a wider range of aperitivo dishes and small plates, alongside classic Bocconcino favourites such as the tagliatelle with black truffle and Pizza Diavola (pizza with spicy salami), made fresh by pizzaiolos using a traditional Roman dough and technique.

The wine list is exclusively Italian, with bottles carefully selected from a variety of well-known brands and small, artisan producers. Bar manager Tim Adams has created a list of classic and contemporary cocktails.

Andrea Caglioti, general manager of the new site, comments: "There’s such a buzz in Soho and I’m confident our new restaurant with its vibrant atmosphere, accessible yet elevated Italian menu, great cocktails and speakeasy-style bar will be a welcome addition to the area."

Bocconcino Soho will open seven days a week for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. A third site is planned for the Strand in 2024.
