Nando's announces food waste campaign winners

Nando's has revealed its No Chuckin' Our Chicken award winners, marking 10 years of the brand's food donation programme.

The Community Food Link Distribution Project was named Charity of the Year, having consistently collected from the Nando's branches in Basingstoke since October last year. It boasts a collection rate of over 95%.

Nando's Ely claimed the Restaurant of the Year title, having consistently donated weekly meals for the last 12 months. Not missing a single week throughout this period means the venue has attained 100% compliance. The restaurant has been donating to LuvEly, a charity based at the Lighthouse Centre, which runs daily social clubs, youth groups and a community pantry.

The Region of the Year accolade went to Mark Betts, managing director for Stevenage, Luton, Hatfield, Hemel Hempstead, Borehamwood, St Albans and Watford. These restaurants have the highest donation rate across Nando's UK and Ireland estate.

Those who have excelled in the No Chuckin' Our Chicken Employability Programme had the chance to be named Employability Heroes. The recognition went to Matthew Lartham, general manager (GM) of Nando's Brighton London Road; Erika Zederstremaite, GM of Nando's Waterloo – The SIdings; Catia Malho, GM of Nando's Didcot; and Mirka Mazurczak, GM of Nando's Oxford – Westgate.

Since 2013, Nando's has donated 4.3m meals to charities through the No Chuckin' Our Chicken programme. In the last six months alone, the company has donated over 500,000 meals, amounting to more than 20,000 a week, over 2,900 a day and 124 every hour.

Sam McCarthy, head of sustainability at Nando's, comments: "Huge congratulations to all our award winners, it is a huge achievement. Our No Chuckin' Our Chicken food donation programme is one of the many ways we support the communities in which we work, with the aim of materially changing the lives of those we help. I am so proud of the work and the impact this programme has had over the past decade, none of which would be possible without the hard work and dedication of our teams and our incredible award winners."
