Mortimer House Kitchen introduces new Italian concept

A new Italian concept from the founder of Maslow's hospitality group will launch in London's Fitzrovia next month.

Guy Ivesha, the restaurateur behind Nessa and 1 WARWICK in Soho, and Mortimer House Kitchen, will launch his latest venture at Mortimer House alongside executive chef Tom Cenci.

The menu will draw on Italian influences from Cenci's family summers spent in Orta San Giulio, Piedmont and towns along the Amalfi coast, where he developed an appreciation for the simplicity of Italian cooking.

The offering begins with a selection of Scarpetta (a bread course designed 'to scoop' up sauces) and antipasti plates designed to share, followed by larger pasta dishes and classics reimagined, championing British and Italian produce.

Menu highlights include crispy polenta and parmesan mayonnaise; zucchini caesar with parmesan and pangrattato; carne cruda and 'nduja bruschetta; calamarata, prawns, tomato and chilli; maccheroni with taleggio, truffle and black pepper; sea bass alla mugnaia, caviar and samphire; and sirloin steak served on focaccia with charred onions.

Dream team

Mortimer House's bar manager Massimo Golfetto (previously of The Standard, London) has worked with Cenci to create a list of classic cocktails inspired by their Italian heritage, including the Milano-Bassano (Grappa Moscato, Cocchi Torino, Campari and strawberry) and the Alba (Campari, Kwai Feh, La Yuzu, grapefruit soda and Prosecco). No- and low-alcohol serves, such as the Bollicine (Noughty sparkling wine with elderflower and lemonade) and Brezza (Pentire Adrift, green tea, lime and agave) are also available. A selection of Italian wines will also be available.

The concept launch comes a year after the successful opening of Nessa. Also joining the Mortimer House team will be Tim Connor, who has previously worked at Nessa, and general manager Grace Trozado (previously The Standard).

Ivesha says of the upcoming launch: "The last year has been a big one for Maslow's with the opening of 1 Warwick in Soho and I am proud of what we have created with Tom at Nessa. He is a hugely creative chef and a brilliant leader so I am very excited to extend our partnership to Mortimer House Kitchen."
