Nick Beardshaw to open debut restaurant in Esher
Nick Beardshaw has announced the opening of his debut restaurant, Starling, set to launch in his home town of Esher, Surrey, at the end of August. Having worked alongside Tom Kerridge for 14 years, where he took on a head chef position, Beardshaw is now embarking on his first solo venture.
The 40-seater restaurant will bring a taste of British seasonal ingredients to Esher High Street. Dishes will feature on a simple menu with no more than five dishes for each course.
Dining at Starling
Starling's opening menu will celebrate Beardshaw's BBC Great British Menu success, including his winning fish starter, 'A Moon Shaped Pool'. Mains will include Creedy Carver duck and Cornish jumbo plaice. Again, dessert will commemorate his Great British Menu achievements, where 'Balloon Girl' will feature, along with two other choices. Himalayan salt-aged steaks will be available as ribeye, fillet or sirloin (to share).
The wine list has been expertly crafted by James Shaw, who joins as general manager from Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, where he was assistant head sommelier. Comprising 10 reds and 10 whites, half fo which are available by the glass, including sparkling wine from Sussex.
As well as table and chair dining, there will also be four counter seats available. Overlooking the kitchen and bar, the high chairs will be for walk-ins only.
Designed by Eve Cullen-Cornes, the colour palette is inspired by the habitat of a starling, emanating the sun and sky, complemented by woody tones and enhanced with gold leaf touches and copper feature lights.
