Blacklock to open in Birmingham

Blacklock will open a new site in St Philip's Place, Birmingham, this autumn.

Overlooking Cathedral Square, the 100-seat restaurant and bar will reside on the ground floor of the grand Victorian building, St Philip's House.

Founded by former lawyer Gordon Ker, Blacklock debuted in 2015 in a Soho basement. The brand's sustainably sourced meat comes from Cornish family farmers and butchers Philip and Ian Warren. This decade-long relationship with sustainable, regenerative farming and no-waste operating approach helped the business earn its B Corp certification in 2023.

The Blacklock experience

As a modern British chophouse, Blacklock Birmingham offers a variety of cuts that are dry-aged for up to 55 days and cooked over charcoal.

Joining the brand's famous chops and steaks will be a selection of dishes designed for sharing, which have proved popular in both the London and Manchester venues. The All In, for example, is a platter of beef, pork and lamb chops, piled onto charred flatbreads and served with a selection of sides.

The group's award-winning Sunday roast will also be offered. Guests will be able to choose from whole joints of beef, lamb or pork slowly roasted over open coals, served with Yorkshire puddings, duck fat-roasted potatoes, seasonal vegetables and Blacklock's signature gravy, which takes over a week to make.

Diners can try Granny's white chocolate cheesecake for dessert, which is served tableside straight from the dish with a 'say when' approach to portion size.

The drinks menu will feature cocktails that follow a pip-to-peel philosophy, an extensive list of wines on tap and a selection of beers and ciders, including the group's very own Blacklock Brews.

"Ten years on from that shoestring conversation of an old Soho basement, we're very excited to be embarking on the restoration of one of the most beautiful buildings in Birmingham," says Ker. "The city's vibrant culture and thriving local food scene has meant we've always wanted to call it home."
