Tom Aikens launches Climb Kilimanjaro Challenge

Only A Pavement Away patron Tom Aikens has launched the Climb Kilimanjaro Challenge, his latest fundraising initiative for the industry charity.
On 1 October, Aikens will lead 40 people on a trek up the highest free-standing mountain in the world, supported by an expert mountaineering team from Walking With My Bear. The expedition will cover 19,341 feet across eight days, with all proceeds going towards the charity's work in helping people facing homelessness find employment in hospitality.
Chef Aikens will prepare a welcome meal for all trekkers, along with a campfire dinner on day four of the expedition – at which point the group will have climbed 9,187 feet.
Greg Mangham, founder and CEO of Only A Pavement Away, comments: "With rising numbers of people facing homelessness and increased pressures on the hospitality sector, our mission has never felt so important. Only A Pavement Away has the ability to provide people with stability through long-term employment in hospitality, while also bringing untapped talent into our sector. However, we can't do it without great supporters.
"Incredible initiatives such as these are a huge support for the charity, so we want to thank all those who have signed up so far and begun fundraising – especially our charity patron, Tom Aikens, for his support. We're with you all the way."
Spaces on the trek are limited, but if you are interested in taking part, please contact [email protected]. If you would like to donate, please visit the JustGiving page here and for further information, visit onlyapavementaway.co.uk.
