All-day restaurant and bakery coming to Camberwell

A new restaurant and bakery is coming to Church Street in Camberwell, south-east London, in May

Created by locals Jo(Jo) Lavender and Rob Newlan, the all-day eatery – Hello JoJo – is a love letter to the neighbourhood, boasting a menu of seasonal dishes from head chef Will Faris (ex The Dairy, The Ritz and Naughty Piglets) and baked goods from head baker Jo Garner (ex Mountain, Toad and e5 Bakehouse) with front-of-house led by general manager Abie Lamin (ex-Berber & Q group).

The restaurant

The restaurant will be open for breakfast through dinner, serving playful, elevated comfort food using carefully selected ingredients. Chef Faris will prepare deli-inspired dishes for weekday lunch, such as slices of house sourdough topped with grilled sardines, marinated courgettes and asparagus salad, or fresh curds, broad beans and smoked artichokes.

On weekends, guests can expect the likes of baked eggs and potato crumpets with brown butter and sticky mushrooms for breakfast, followed by seasonal fresh pasta dishes and plates such as fava bean purée with chicory and fresh bread for lunch.

As the evening draws in, guests can expect dishes such as Tamworth pork chop with a buttery spring garlic sauce or smoked potato dumplings with spring greens. Desserts include a marmalade tart made with Todoli citrus and cold-pressed rapeseed oil ice-cream with gooseberries.

Old-world, low-intervention wines, selected by Mina Holland, will be available to drink, complementing the ever-changing seasonal menu, along with tap wine from Uncharted Wines. A selection of cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages have been developed by JoJo herself, including a fennel brine martini and classic serves such as vermouth and soda and spritzes. Local beer from Orbit, a brewery in Camberwell, will be on tap, as well as non-alcoholic alternatives from Nirvana Brewery.

The bakery

The bakery will serve freshly baked bread alongside sweet and savoury pastries. Classics such as honey buns, bacon sandwiches and overnight oats will be available, along with vegan vanilla buns, chocolate rye Swiss Rolls and pizza buns.

Head barista, Florian Cross (formerly of Grove Lane Deli), will be using specialty coffee from South London roasters.

On the upcoming launch, the founders say: "Hello JoJo is a true celebration of the very special place that we call home. Our ambition is to create a space that encapsulates the spirit of our neighbourhood and to be a place where everyone feels welcome.

"The priority is for guests to leave feeling nourished by great flavours, enjoy the good vibes and a warm reception, and always to leave with the glow of a good time."
