Chef Negi opens Krishna's at the Marquess

Michelin Bib Gourmand-awarded chef Krishnapal Negi has launched Krishna's at the Marquess in Lyddington, Rutland.

Following a 20-year stint helping to shape contemporary Indian cooking in London, chef Negi has embarked on this, his first rural outpost.

Negi and his business partners took ownership of The Marquess of Exeter, a Grade II listed building dating back to the early 12th century, in spring. The offering at the thatched-roof property now includes Krishna's, serving authentic Indian eats; The Meadow, a grassy spot set up for al fresco drinks and dining; The Marquess, serving pub classics; as well as comfortable accommodation.

Chef Negi has created menus for some of the most reputed Indian restaurants in the capital, but has now invested his time in his own proprietary kitchen. The offering includes simple but authentic dishes inspired by the Himalayas – where the chef was born. The concise launch menu includes starters of wild mushroom cake on chickpea masala with mint, tamarind and sweet yogurt, and chicken '65' marinated breast pieces in spices and tomato chilli sauce; mains of butter chicken spiced and simmered in tomato and cashew sauce, as well as slow-cooked lamb masala; while sides such as truffle naan and aloo jeera will also be available.

A Sunday roast menu with chef Negi's signature twist will land at Krishna's soon.
