Smokestak announces 10th anniversary party
On Saturday 19 August, Smokestak will throw a summer street party to mark a decade-long legacy of smoking, hosting an al fresco mini-festival that goes back to the restaurant’s roots as a street feast trader.
Live DJs will play all day long and into the night, while the menu will feature Smokestak favourites and cocktails from the last 10 years, as well as one-off dishes from guest chefs who have tended the fires and worked the smokers in this period. This includes Joshua Moroney, co-founder of British-Afghan BBQ joint Cue Point, who will be putting his spin on a 'ribwich' with smoked and grilled pork belly rib, herb slaw, honey mustard and hot BBQ crackling in a hot dog bun; and Elliot Cunningham, founder of live fire pop-up Lagom and Eld Pizza, who will serve birch-smoked chicken with white BBQ sauce, Smokestak chillies and pickles.
Taking over the car park opposite the Shoreditch restaurant, four wood-burning smokers are being imported for the event. Guests will be able to tuck into brisket buns, pork rib tip burnt-ends, grilled greens with tahini and pomegranate, and malt ice cream soft serve with a cornflake crumb for dessert.
Returning to head up the bar will be Ben Dargue, who created Smokestak’s original cocktail list. He’ll be mixing up some classic drinks from the last 10 years, including frozen margaritas and rhubarb sours, while 40 Ft Brewery is creating a special Smokestak 10th anniversary canned beer exclusively for the summer street food feast.
Smokestak founder David Carter says: “The last decade has been surreal, from our early days at Street Feast in Dalston Yard to opening our Shoreditch restaurant in 2016. When Smokestak was first conceived, reaching our 10th birthday was an unfathomable milestone. While there are too many good people to thank, this mini-festival is a special toast to all those past and present who have helped build Smokestak to what it is today. It will be a proper celebration to remember, taking us back to all the madness and excitement of our street food days while looking ahead to what the next ten years have in store for us. Dare to dream."
Smokestak’s 10th birthday party will take place on Saturday 19 August, with ticketed sessions at 12.00pm, 2.30pm, 5.00pm and 7.30pm. A limited number of early release tickets (£6.50) are available to buy from smokestak.co.uk from Friday 30 June until sold out, with general release (£9.50) on sale from 4 July.
