Survey reveals Veganuary's health benefits

Veganuary, the global organisation that encourages people to adopt a vegan diet throughout January and beyond, has released the results from its six-month follow-up survey of this year's campaign. The findings demonstrate the lasting effects of the month-long pledge, with almost two-thirds of participants claiming they had more energy (58%), better skin (51%), improved mood (57%) and a desired change in body weight (43%) after taking part.

Six months after completing the 31-day challenge, 80% of those who were not vegan before signing up have dramatically reduced their animal product consumption ever since. According to the findings, 28% percent are still eating a fully vegan diet, 36% are eating at least 75% less meat and other animal products, 16% are eating at least 50% less meat and other animal products, and 96% of those who are not fully vegan said they're likely to try the diet again in the future.

"These results show that, far from being just a one-month pledge, Veganuary is helping to drive long-lasting diet change around the world," says Toni Vernelli, the campaign's head of communications.

She adds: "Cutting out meat and dairy is the best way to cut our carbon footprint. As an added bonus, nearly two-thirds of participants who stick with a plant-based diet feel health benefits as well. There is simply no downside to signing up for Veganuary!"
