Alley Cats pizzeria opens in Marylebone
A New York-style pizzeria has opened in Marylebone, offering artisan pizzas inspired by Manhattan's Italian community.
Alley Cats, located at 22 Paddington Street, features a menu of 14-inch pizzas from lunch through dinner, seven days a week. Sicilian head chef Francesco Macri has been honing his skills for over a decade, bringing recipes passed down from his grandmother to the London pizzeria. Some of his creations feature aged Mozzarella from Molise, with added taste and size achieved through baking the pizzas in the traditional thin and crispy style, with optional toppings and dips.
Menu highlights include Smoked Pepperoni, dressed in tomato, aged mozzarella and honey; Fennel Sausage with tomato, pancetta, red onion and pecorino flakes; the Vodka pizza, crafted with four-hour slow-cooked tomato sauce with vodka, topped with mozzarella; Wild Mushroom topped with king oyster, portobello and chanterelle mushrooms, alongside taleggio cheese, aged mozzarella, red onion jam and fried sage; and the Vegan Fire, with tomato sauce, roasted bell pepper, crispy potato, pesto and 'nduja.
Signature desserts such as Tiramisù, as well as vanilla soft serve ice cream with various toppings – including Amarena cherries, toffee fudge sauce, honey and salted peanuts – are also available.
The restaurant has 50 covers, with the interior paying homage to New York via exposed concrete walls, gingham tablecloths and a glazed tile framing the pizza ovens and bar.
