Rick Stein Restaurants donates 200,000 meals
Over the last 18 months, a family-run seafood restaurant group in the UK has donated 200,000 meals to children living in poverty via One Feeds Two – a non-profit charity that supplies meals to those living in some of the world's poorest countries, including Madagascar, Malawi and Kenya.
Since establishing the partnership in September 2022, the group has pledged to donate one school meal to a child living in poverty for every 'One Feeds Two' dish sold across its 10 restaurants, fishmongers and seafood bar, plus water bottles or coffee cups sold from its deli in Padstow. Dishes include Rick Stein's battered cod and chips, cod curry and seafood platter.
"It's such a simple concept of 'buy one, give one', but it's also such a powerful way that our family business can deliver on one of society's biggest issues: child poverty," says group director Charlie Stein.
Stein gives back
Rick Stein Restaurants regularly supports charities and local communities through various fundraising initiatives, including donating £11,000 to the National Lobster Hatchery in Padstow in 2023 via a Sumer of Shellfish campaign; raising £10,000 for the Cornwall Hospice Care through charity lunches at The Seafood Restaurant; donations through carrier bag sales to Fisherman's Mission and Clean Cornwall; as well as raffle and cash donations to community, food poverty and industry-related causes.
Jack Stein, chef-director of Rick Stein Restaurants, comments: "As a family business in the hospitality industry, we know there's nothing that brings people together quite like food. I'm very proud we're doing our bit to support One Feeds Two's work to end hunger and reaching the milestone of donating 200,000 meals to children living in poverty is a great achievement. Thank you to everyone who's enjoyed our One Feeds Two dishes, especially cod and chips, in the last 18 months to help us reach this total."
