Kricket confirms fifth London location

A collection of modern Indian restaurants based in London has confirmed plans to launch its fifth site later this year.

The duo behind the popular Kricket brand will open a 120-cover all-day restaurant and bar in Shoreditch – their second new opening of 2024.

Co-founders Rik Campbell and Will Bowlby brought the concept to life in 2015 as a pop-up in a shipping container at Pop Brixton. The pair then launched their first permanent site in Soho in 2016, which was quickly followed by the relocation of the Brixton pop-up to its current home on Atlantic Road (2017) and the launch of a new site in West London's regenerated BBC Television Centre in White City (2018).

Kricket Canary Wharf opens imminently (2 September), bringing the brand's contemporary twist on traditional Indian flavours to east London. As part of the launch, the co-founders have also brought their minimalist speakeasy concept, SOMA, which debuted in Soho in September 2021, to the area. SOMA 2.0 will adjoin Kricket Canary Wharf, with room for up to 50 guests and a licence to open late.

As with previous launches, Campbell and Bowlby are working on an all-new and distinct offering and setting for Kricket Shoreditch that aligns with both the site and space, as well as the local area. While Canary Wharf features a new Sunday offering and late-night menu from Thursday to Saturday, the Shoreditch location will further explore the drinks and bar element within the Kricket brand. It will also feature the brand's first and only private dining room – suitable for up to 18 guests.

'Beyond just being a place to eat'

Commenting on the launch, Campbell says: "Kricket Shoreditch represents another step in the evolution of our brand. From menus to design, each location must offer something unique beyond just being a place to eat. There has been plenty of hard work and R&D behind the scenes, including a trip to India with the team. We are delighted that these flavours and experiences are now coming to fruition in the form of two additional restaurant spaces in arguably two of London's hottest restaurant destinations.

"In many respects, it's surreal how far we are from the humble beginnings in a shipping container in Pop Brixton. For us, it's important to keep moving and stay current. We are keen to expand organically both at home and abroad."
