Trejo's Tacos expands offering
Following the successful arrival of its first international outpost on West London’s Portobello Road, Trejo’s Tacos has expanded its menu to bring more of its Hollywood heritage to the capital.
The new menu coincides with the official launch of the venue's revamped underground speakeasy, The Machete Bar.
As the UK’s flagship restaurant and concept showcase, Trejo’s Tacos' two-storey venue in London now also houses an underground speakeasy, regularly featuring DJs for the after-dinner crowds. Working with local West London artist Jose Rodriguez, the space has been transformed to create ‘The Machete Bar’, in homage to one of founder Danny Trejo’s most iconic movies.
'Cal-Mex' cuisine
Famed for its fusion of Californian and Mexican, or 'Cal-Mex', cuisine, Trejo's Tacos has introduced 15 new dishes, including vegan options. Alongside existing favourites, the taco offering now includes a beef barbacoa taco, served with pico de gallo, tortilla strips and cotija cheese; a vegan young jackfruit taco, served with avocado crema, pico de gallo verde slaw and tortilla strips; a fried chicken taco served in a lettuce cup; and a cheeseburger taco with beef, nacho cheese, red onion, cilantro, cherry tomato and bacon.
New burritos have also been added, including the beef barbacoa burrito, grilled chicken burrito, spicy shrimp burrito, carnitas burrito, vegan young jackfruit and vegan mushroom asada burrito.
Bowl options have also diversified, featuring a chilli con carne bowl, beef barbacoa bowl and vegan young jackfruit bowl. A brand-new fish and chips dish has been introduced to the children’s menu and a winter-warming tortilla soup bowl, blended with chicken, dried chilli broth, avocado and corn and served with tortilla chips and cheese, makes its debut.
The cocktail menu encompasses 10 new serves, such as the Lavender Punch, crafted from dark rum, fresh lime juice, cassis and lavender; Cocoloco with coconut tequila, cacao, lime and egg white; Red Flamingo with ojo de dioa hibiscus, hot honey, lime and grapefruit soda; Old Fiction with monkey shoulder, banana liqueur and salted caramel; and Gingersnap, with mezcal, kaveri ginger liqueur, green chartreuse, lime and agave.
