Flat Iron to open in Southbank

Flat Iron is preparing to launch a new restaurant in Southbank in spring, located within the Royal Festival Hall.

Led by the ‘flat iron’ steak, a cut sourced from the feather blade, Flat Iron’s menu will feature a rotating blackboard of specials, including Wagyu, Scottish bavette and a triple cheese truffle burger, made using beef from the Flat Iron herd in Thirsk, Yorkshire. Sides will include the brand's signature beef dripping chips, creamed spinach, truffled macaroni cheese and crispy bone marrow garlic mash.

The drinks menu will offer a selection of wines, including Flat Iron’s own Malbec, blended using grapes from the Limoux region in southern France’s Languedoc. A variety of draft beers, cocktails and house fizzes will also be available.

Designed by Macauley Sinclair, the new restaurant will pay homage to the architectural history of the building through subtly presented mid-century references in the proportions, details and choice of materials used.

Outside, on the Southbank Centre Square, under the overhanging balcony of RFH, the restaurant will have a large terrace complete with heated umbrellas, plants and strings of festoon lighting. Inside, a large, central bar will divide the space in two – a brighter bar seating area at the front and a main dining area at the back, with over 220 covers in total.

Flat Iron's head of beef Fred Smith comments: "We are so humbled to be able to open Flat Iron in such a historic and culturally vibrant London landmark. We have conscientiously designed the interiors to reflect the building's rich history and cannot wait to use this amazing space to continue our mission to serve delicious and accessible steak to all Londoners."
