Sesta in Hackney opens streetside terrace

Sesta, the restaurant and wine bar from Drew Snaith and Hannah Kowalski, has launched its new streetside terrace just in time for summer.

Opening in 2024, Sesta took over the site of Hackney institution Pidgin, where Snaith was previously head chef and Kowalski was general manager. It is the duo’s first restaurant, having also worked together at Brunswick House before Pidgin.

Situated on Hackney’s Wilton Way, just a stone’s throw from London Fields, the restaurant’s new 16-cover outdoor terrace welcomes diners to enjoy its small plates and natural wine list alfresco throughout the warmer months. The restaurant also seats 24 covers inside.

Dining on the terrace

Surrounded by planters filled with herbs and flowers, Sesta’s full menu will be available to order on the terrace, along with a selection of new spring dishes.

Highlights include Cajun ham chou farci with smoked eel; leeks with borlotti bean hummus, pickled rhubarb and pistachio crackers; devilled ox heart skewer with pickled magnolia, green chillies and chives; courgette, black garlic purée, fromage blanc, pickled linequat and Mexican rayu; smoked citrus-cured trout with Iberico tomatoes, margherita onions, brassica shoots and fermented rhubarb vinaigrette; and tiramisu and brown butter semifreddo.

Terrace diners can enjoy Sesta’s ever-changing list of natural wines by the glass and bottle. Curated by Kowalski, the list has a keen focus on French wines and wider Europe, as well as small producers with an emphasis on sustainability.
