Burnt Orange to open in Brighton

Razak Helalat (pictured below), the operator of The Salt Room and The Coal Shed, will open a new venue in Brighton this June called Burnt Orange.

The venue's food, wine and cocktail menus will be accompanied by a specially curated music programme from the DJ Norman Cook (aka Fatboy Slim), playing homage to where the record label Skint Records first started a few doors down.

Burnt Orange will offer all-day and late-night drinking, with guests enjoying wood-fired dishes from head chef Peter Dantanus, crafted drinks and weekend brunches.

Small plates include crab and samphire fritters; brown crab tahini and nigella salt; and stracciatella, burnt bread, lardo and salted cherries.

These sit alongside a selection of larger plates cooked over open fire, from shawarma pork belly, date molasses and pickled fennel salad to charcoal-roasted octopus, harissa butter and pine nuts.

“Over the past couple of years, I’ve had countless conversations with friends and loyal customers about the need for a totally new space," says Helalat.

"Something different - not quite a restaurant, not quite a bar - but somewhere that combines great food and amazing drinks with the right music.

"It’s somewhere you can catch up with friends, hang-out and just have fun. Our vision for Burnt Orange is just that, 'Right Here, Right Now' and we can’t wait to open our doors this summer."

Set close to Brighton’s seafront and just a few streets from the historic Brighton Lanes, the venue offers 54 covers inside, alongside a courtyard with 28 covers and a private dining room seating for 10 guests.

The restaurant is situated within a 16th Century former coach house, which retains many original features.
