Adriana Cavita announces Mexican chef series

Adriana Cavita has announced her latest project 'akin' – a series of chef nights at her restaurant, Cavita, in partnership with some of her favourite Mexican eateries from across Europe and Mexico. The series kicks off with Hugo Soto (21–25 February) and Thalia Barrios Garcia (4–5 March). The dinners will celebrate the variation in cuisine and traditional practices across Mexico from Oaxaca to Zacatecas and beyond.

The first event will see Soto of Cosecha Taller in Zacatecas visit Cavita to cook a one-off menu. Soto has worked at top restaurants such as Dany Garcia’s Manzanilla and Michelin-starred Brooklyn restaurant run by chef Fredrik Berselius, Aska. With this experience under his belt, Soto moved back to Zacatecas to open his own restaurant, Cosecha Taller de Cocina. Dishes from his menu (£78pp) will include wild sea bass ceviché cured with árbol chilli sauce and dried prawns and Gordita de chile relleno – a poblano chilli and cheese gordita with Zacatecas-style red rice.

The second event will welcom Thalia Barrios Garcia from Levadura de Olla in Oaxaca. Born and raised in Mexico, Garcia is a traditional female cook from San Mateo Yucuntidoó, Oaxaca. She was taught to cook by her grandmother as a child, much like Adriana, learning traditional rituals and practices around Mexican staples. At the age of 26, Garcia became the owner and head cook of Levadura de Olla – one of Oaxaca City’s most exciting new restaurants – in 2020.

Further events at Cavita and Garcia's menu will be announced later this month. All menus will be priced at £78pp for a set four-course dinner. Cavita, on Marylebone’s Wigmore Street, has achieved critical acclaim since opening in May 2022.
