Pizza Pilgrims earns BCORP status

An independent pizza chain has secured BCORP certification, joining over 8,000 businesses globally and more than 1,500 in the UK that aim to use their businesses as "a force for good".

Over the last two years, the Pizza Pilgrims team has been working across every area of the business to secure its BCORP status. To achieve this, the group had to display verified performance, accountability and transparency on factors such as employee pay and benefits, community engagement, positive supply chain practices and a long-term commitment to reduce its environmental impact.

Solidifying its dedication to the certification, Pizza Pilgrims made a legal commitment to the cause by changing its corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders.

To Pizza Pilgrims, the certification is also a strategic pillar that will influence current and future business. After turning 10 years old last August, the group now plans to embark on the next stage of its journey, boosted by its BCORP status.

Founder Thom Elliot comments: "Ever since I first read about BCORP – I have felt it is a movement that I want Pizza Pilgrims to be a part of. We started the company to be a source of happiness – both for ourselves, but also our employees, customers, and the communities we serve. To have BCORP as a hugely credible third-party guide and inspiration for ensuring Pizza Pilgrims is a force for good in the future is an exciting step – and one I am proud to have achieved with the team."
