Browns Brasserie Bristol to relaunch after revamp

The Bristol branch of a British brasserie chain will reopen this week following an extensive refurbishment.

Mitchells & Butlers-owned brand Browns will reopen to the public on Thursday, 28 March. The operator is preparing to unveil the transformed space, nestled in a historic building in the heart of Clifton. 

The former museum and library, originally designed by Foster and Ponton in 1867–71 in a Venetian-Gothic style, the building has a storied past. Despite enduring damage during World War II bombings, losing significant decorative elements such as pinnacles and parapets, the structure was reconstructed in 1950. It has served various purposes over the years, including housing the university refectory, before evolving into the Browns Brasserie & Bar venue it is today.

The latest renovation pays homage to the building's history while introducing a modern style, inspired by luxe art deco aesthetics.

Open all day from breakfast through dinner, Browns serves British comfort dishes and seasonal offerings, including traditional afternoon teas, fresh lobster on Fridays and Saturdays, weekend Champagne bottomless brunches and traditional Sunday roasts. 

Guests can make the most of the sunshine on the outdoor terrace, enjoy a hand-crafted cocktail at the bar or choose from a selection of wine and Champagne to accompany their meal.
