New yakitori restaurant coming to Holborn
A new specialist Japanese yakitori restaurant will launch in Holborn on Monday, 18 November.
Led by founders Mike Zheng and Kuangyi Wei, Hotori will offer a 'beak-to-tail' menu of grilled chicken skewers and tempura, along with premium sake, Japanese whiskey and wine.
At the heart of the dining room will be an open kitchen counter where guests can watch chefs grill skewers over hot charcoal on the custom 1.4m hibachi grill. The menu will feature chicken, vegetables, fish and other meat, all freshly grilled to order.
The yakitori will be available as individual skewers but several set menus will also be offered. The restaurant will also provide selection of lunchtime bento boxes for eat-in or takeaway. They will include the yakitori sets with grilled chicken, rice and pickles; fish bento with grilled salmon and rice; tempura bento with mixed tempura and rice; and katsudon with chicken karaage, rice and salad.
The founders say of the upcoming launch: "We are so excited to be opening Hotori in London soon. We've been lucky enough to eat some incredible yakitori in Japan and many other countries around the world – but having lived and worked in London for many years we are always surprised that this kind of beat-to-tail concept wasn't more readily available here given how great British chickens are. So we decided to do it ourselves!"
Debuting with its ground-floor dining room, Hotori will soon open a gallery space for local artists and private dining rooms on its lower ground-floor level, with more details to be announced later in the year.
