Tropea's completed extension adds 25 covers
Tropea, an Italian restaurant based in Harborne, recently extended into the next-door premises, adding 25 more covers and doubling the kitchen size.
The increased kitchen space can accommodate new equipment, allowing the chefs to expand the menu. The new dishes available include beef carpaccio, Sicilian arancino with butternut squash, Sardines ‘in soar’ on crostini, and Sardinian fregola pasta with chilli and native mussels.
Tropea is the creation of Ben Robinson Young and Kasia Piatkowska, who met while studying Culinary Arts at the University College Birmingham in 2010. The restaurant borrows its name from Tropea, a picturesque town on the Calabrian coast (pronounced Tro-Pey-Ah).
“As a true neighbourhood restaurant, we could not be more excited to reopen our doors for friends of Tropea and introduce new faces to the refreshed space," say Young and Piatkowska in a joint statement.
"As always, Tropea will remain an intimate and cosy restaurant with the extension allowing us to offer more variety in sitting options. Now that we’re able to offer walk-ins, there will always be a spot for regular locals to visit for their favourite dish or a try something new.”
