Japanese fusion restaurant Kaji launches in Manchester

Nestled on Bridge Street, KAJI Manchester is a new Japanese fusion and flame grill restaurant.

Steven Smith is the restaurant's chef-patron, steering all menu development. He was formerly chef-patron and owner of award-winning gastropub The Freemasons Wiswell for 15 years.

Open-flame cooking and fresh sushi are both focal points at KAJI, where Steve and his team sear ingredients over coal-fired grills.

The menu

KAJI offers a £30 lunch menu or early evening experience which features a snack, starter and main, with the option to elevate with sides and desserts.

For groups or those that want an informal lunch or dinner, KAJI’s small plates menu is designed for sharing. Highlights include sticky wings, Thai green mousse, katsu curry sauce and langoustine, and shiso spring rolls with avocado, wasabi and yuzu. Favourites from the small plate options include XL Orkney scallop baked in its shell with sea urchin butter, and KAJI’s spiced Himalayan salt-aged beef tartare with sumo miso, Cacklebean hen egg yolk and smoked pickled cucumber.

The sushi menu showcases flavours from Japan, South East Asia, Brazil and Peru. From plates of classic Tokyo sushi to creative Tamaki rolls.
