Debut site confirmed for Edo Izakaya

Edo Izakaya – the Japanese concept founded by Sonny Huang, owner of West End sushi restaurant Robata – has confirmed that its debut site that will open in December. 

The 1,894sq ft venue will reside at 154 Old Street. Named after the informal bars that are popular in Japan, Edo Izakaya will have 80-covers, including a chef's table and lounge bar area, with an extensive sake menu also available. Traditional- and new-style sushi rolls, hand rolls and nigiris will be front and centre of the restaurant's offering, along with snacks such as fried squid and chicken kataage. The menu will be accompanied by a range of Japanese cocktails and spirits. 

Designed by TurnerBates and inspired by the Edo period of Japanese history in which izakaya bars became prominent, the restaurant will boast a modern interior balanced with intricate woodwork and a focus on traditional Japanese values.

On the upcoming launch, Huang comments: "Following the success of Robata in Soho, we are excited to launch our next authentic concept in a new part of London, with Old Street serving a strong commitment of Islington borough residents and office workers. We are looking forward to delivering a distinctive and original Japanese restaurant in a prime city fringe location."
